by Gail Dee/We Want Music Without Borders
Hot Colombian dance music from Cumbia to Champeta is converging on Chicago from July 16 to 26. Columbia is extremely rich in Afro based styles of music. Five bands with different styles of music –all in the DON’T MISS category. Below you can take a listen for yourself. Just touch the icons for videos and info. More scholarly explanation to come. At least 3 of the bands are appearing here for the first time. Due to the size of the bands and age of some of the band members don’t expect Ondatropica and Los Gaiteros de Son Jacintos (Latin Grammy Winners) to be here anytime again soon. Truly wonderful opportunity to take advantage of being in a cultural oasis like Chicago!
